Judge Lynn R. Kotler was elected to the Civil Court bench in November 2009. She presided over the Criminal Court in both the Bronx and Manhattan before being assigned to the Civil Court, New York County, in December 2012.

Prior to serving on the bench, Judge Kotler practiced law for seventeen years in both small firms and as a solo practitioner. She maintained a general civil litigation practice focusing on matrimonial and family law, real estate, wills and estates, and personal injury. While in private practice, Judge Kotler devoted a great deal of time to pro bono cases to help those who would not otherwise have access to legal services.

Judge Kotler spent more than a decade volunteering as an arbitrator for both the New York City Small Claims Court and the Better Business Bureau. She was also a Special Master for Justice Richard Braun in the Supreme Court, New York County. Judge Kotler is the co-chair of the New York County Civil Court Gender Fairness Committee.

Judge Kotler received her B.S. and M.S. in Education from the University of Connecticut and her J.D. from Touro Law School. Judge Kotler was an elite-level field hockey player at the University of Connecticut and continues to be an avid sports enthusiast.
