THE EVOLUTION OF MEDICAL CARE AND RESEARCH: WHAT IS HAPPENING TO MEDICINE AND HOW WILL IT AFFECT US?
This was the topic of JALBCA’s December 2012 symposium. The first part of the program featured Dr. Larry Norton, of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, speaking on the current status of breast cancer research. After his remarks, a panel discussed the practice of medicine in the past decade and the future, especially with regard to managed care and insurance companies. The panel also weighed in on how the Affordable Care Act will impact undocumented aliens (and those who treat them), breast cancer survivors, and overall access to health care. The pros and cons of electronic medical records were explored as well.
